Membership Spotlight- Sarika Alvekar

I’m Sarika Alvekar, a mostly self-taught fine artist, twin mom, and computer engineer originally from Mumbai, India. After living across the U.S. for two decades, I now call Texas home. My creative journey began in Oklahoma, sparked by a visit to the Prix de West exhibition at the National Cowboy Museum. That moment opened a new path—one where art became not just a passion, but a way of life.
My work is rooted in storytelling. I’m drawn to the beauty of everyday life, especially quiet, fleeting moments with my sons that might otherwise go unnoticed. I work across mediums—from delicate pencil sketches to expressive oil paintings—capturing the emotion, light, and connection that define a moment. Through vibrant color and thoughtful composition, I aim to preserve memory, celebrate relationships, and evoke a sense of presence and reflection.
Influenced by my mother’s creativity, library books, online learning, and local art communities, my practice continues to evolve. For me, making art is an act of gratitude—a way to honor life’s simplicity and depth, one painting at a time.
