Laurie Huff

Laurie Huff is a contemporary abstract painter creating work that is informed by her love for nature and travel. Her work is multi-layered and textural, created in acrylic, oil & cold wax, collage, and drawing media created with expressive, bold and subtle mark making. Laurie holds a BA in Fine Arts and a Masters in Education, and is a former Fine Arts teacher and administrator.
Her recent series of nature inspired abstracts capture the color and feel of a place. Inspiration often comes from personal experience during walks along the lakeshore near her Rockwall, Texas home or from the serene beauty of land, trees and sky experienced during travel.
Rather than using traditional brushes or depicting realistic scenes, Laurie prefers expressive linework, rich textures, and unexpected elements hidden among layers of oil and cold wax. Her tools include silicone bowl scrapers, brayers, skewers, palette knives, sculpture tools, trivets and placemats. She works intuitively, sometimes moving towards pure abstraction, letting the paint lead the way.
Laurie enjoys traveling to art fairs in the Southwest so that others can experience her work in person to get a true sense of the art and the process. Laurie is represented by Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, and can be found online on Instagram and at LaurieHuffStudio.com
