2019 Tom Collins Memorial Scholarship $1000 Winner

Anna will be attending Abilene Christian University studying photography/graphic design.  Her photographs have been selected to be included in the City of Rowlett calendar; has received Gold medal for a state level photography competition; and has received honorable mentions for her photography at the Texas State Fair.  She is also ranked #31 in her graduation class at Rockwall High School, where she is also co-captain of the swim team.  She shared that she was involved in a class called Partner Art at RHS.  She wrote “I was paired with my good friend Sydney, and thoroughly enjoyed learning about various elements of design, experimenting with new artistic mediums alongside her, and assisting her in her artistic development.  I also enjoyed learning about art composition and color theory, especially as these fine art aspects relate to the digital realm of photography.”

Because of a generous donations and having a wonderful year in fundraising, we were able to also extend two more $500 scholarships.  The recipients to these are:

Janelle Hummingbird

 

Janelle will be attending University of Arkansas where she will be swimming for the Razorback swim team and getting her Fine Art degree.  She plans to major in Studio Art. She has been a member of the National Art Honor Society and is currently ranked #68 in the class of 608 at Rockwall High School.  Her art teachers recommend Janelle and wrote “She has an incredible skill in draftsmanship that combines with thoughtful, intelligent concepts to make beautiful work that evaluates her identity in our contemporary culture.”

Hannah Schwartz

Hannah will be attending Collin Community College and is interested in drawing, illustration, and painting. Once she receives her associate degree, her plan is to transfer to Maine College of Art to finish her Bachelor’s Degree.  She has been the Publisher Officer in the National Art Honors Society at Rockwall High School.  She has also taken Art 1, Art 2, Art 3 Drawing, Art 3 Painting, AP Art History, and AP Studio Art during her high school career.

Jessica Lee

Jessica will be attending Savannah College of Art and Design this upcoming fall.  She is planning on majoring in Sequential Art or Illustration with concentration in concept design.  Her dream is to be a concept artist or character designer for Disney Animation Studios or Pixar.
