About The Event
Artist Bio
Curtis Frederick was born and raised in the Dallas, Texas area. Although he showed artistic promise at a young age, life events would take Frederick away from his passion for many years. Fortunately in the last couple of years he has been given another opportunity to pursue his artistic dreams. Frederick has been sculpting with clay for many years and most recently has been inspired to start painting.
He is an award winning artist across the United States and some of his recent exhibitions include: Buchanan Center of the Arts (IL), Craven Art Council (NC), Farmington Museum (NM), Blue Line Arts (CA), Craighead Green Gallery (TX), Cooperstown Art Association (NY), Alexandria Museum of Art (LA), and Art League of Hilton Head (SC).
His work has also been featured in the book “Gate Posts with No Gate- The leg paint project”-
Shanti Arts Publishing.
Artist Statement
The love of art started at a very young age for me. As with many young artists, drawing was the first thing I was introduced to and could do well. It was not until college that I discovered clay. For me three dimensional designs was something I could create in a fully immersed way. It is a challenge to make sure that each sculpture engages the viewer from all angles. Being somewhat of a rebel, I try to push the envelope on the finishes of my clay pieces. You will find wood stain, acrylic paint, and even electrical tape on some of my ceramic sculptures. I also like to incorporate wood and steel to add an extra element to the piece.
