September 29 - Andrew Wages, Oil Painting Demonstration

Artist’s Statement"When I'm walking in the landscape looking for a place to paint, I may notice a combination of colors or a feeling of light and value, or I may be stopped by a special touch of detail. However, it is being out in nature that really touches me deeply.  It is the sights, sounds, and the feel of it, that touches me deep inside.  At times it is almost a spiritual thing, un-paintable, but there is a peace and quietness to my painting that I enjoy when I see them framed and in the studio or my home.  I hope others feel some of the things I feel while I'm painting and find that peace and quietness also.

We need to work hard to preserve our natural landscape for other generations to enjoy.  I have seen a lot destroyed during the last two decades.  It takes each person doing his or her small part to preserve our national landscape." Biography While a young boy, Andrew Wages wandered the hills of southern Oklahoma.  After his family moved to Texas he developed an interest in art.  Encouraged by his teachers, he attended Art Center College of Design, graduating with honors. He married his high school sweetheart, Sandra Lee, and was off to New York City to apprentice as an illustrator to one of the commercial art studios. He was drafted by the army and served as an illustrator in Fourth Army Recruiting.  He then worked as a freelance illustrator in Dallas for thirty-five years. For the past fifteen years, Andrew has followed his dream and has been painting landscapes, still life, portraits and figurative works.  He has taught at SMU and El Centro, as well as private lessons, critiques and workshops. October 27 - Kaye Franklin, Oil Painting Demonstration

The Dane G. Hansen Memorial Museum takes great pride in hosting a four day painting workshop with Master Pastelist, Kaye Franklin. Franklin instructed an oil l& pastel class in 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and has been asked to return in 2009 by popular demand. Kaye Franklin began her art career in 1975 while living in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. She and her family moved to Graham, Texas in 1979. It was then that she began a serious quest for the best schools and instructors. Franklin studied at the Scottsdale Artist School and with Connecticut artist William Henry Earle. Her pursuit of excellence has won her the deepest respect of her students, peers and serious collectors. She has received many national honors that have culminated in her recognition as master pastelist, and her election to signature membership in the Pastel Society of America and Oil Painters of America.

The elements in her artwork consist of light, color and focal point. She likes working with both pastels and oils. Pastels show immediate results and they stay brilliant, oils allow you to create new colors from existing pigments.

Franklin teaches weekly classes and conducts several workshops at various locations throughout the year. Kaye has taught in Canada, Mexico, England, France, Spain, Italy and the Pacific Northwest. Her work can be seen at the Victorian Gallelry in Dallas, Texas and Zantman Gallery in Ketchum, Idaho.

December 1 - Pat Duncan, Gourd Painting Demonstration

Pat Duncan, creates gourd art. Yes, gourds! Like a sculptor who sees a desired shape within a block of stone, Ms. Duncan can perceive what each gourd is meant to be. "I started with the gourds by helping a friend," she said. "I bought a gourd and did an Uncle Sam on it for her store. She set it out, and by the end of the day, I received eight orders. "My favorite is when I tried to mold a gourd in a fish canister. It grew so big I had to break the canister. When I looked at it, I saw a face on one side. After I painted it, I turned to paint another side and saw another face. Finally, I went to paint the final side and I saw an elephant's face. I call him 'Mr. Ugly.' He won first place at the State Fair in 2003."
