Our History
The Rockwall Art League was established in 2000 in Rockwall, Texas. The purpose was to create a forum for area artists to
- share ideas, communicate, and support each other;
- bring an awareness of fine art to the community, and
- provide scholarships to support the efforts of talented high school students.
These goals are being realized through annual exhibits, programs, studio tours and the Tom Collins Memorial Scholarship.The Rockwall Art League is a member of the Rockwall Chamber of Commerce, The Old Town Shoppes of Rockwall and is supported in part by grants from the City of Rockwall Hotel Motel Tax Revenue and the Rockwall County Alliance for the Arts. We appreciate their ongoing support.
Tom Collins Memorial Scholarship
Thomas Lynn Collins was known as a master artist and craftsman. Tom was a founding member of the Rockwall Art League in 1999. A talented and prolific artist, he was a good friend to many of the league's members and mentored many interested art students and enriched the community. His family set up the original scholarship fund upon his death and it has been continued and maintained by the Rockwall Art League in Tom's memory becuase of his devotion to the arts and the city of Rockwall.
This year the scholarship amount will be $1,000. It is with great pleasure that we announce Ben Lawling as the recipient of our 2010 Tom Collins Memorial Scholarship. Ben will be attending the University of North Texas in the fall and plans to major in graphic design. Darlene Dittoe, president of RAL, will present Ben with his scholarship award on June 2 at the Rockwall Heath High School Awards Ceremony.
